Woman left terrified after air hostess dismisses her nut allergy (2024)

A woman has claimed a flight attendant refused to change the flight menu or inform other passengers of her deadly allergy to nuts.

Faye Jawad, from London, who uses the social media handle, @fayeeeeeej, took to TikTok to share her unpleasant experience on board a flight to Portugal.

Faye said that upon boarding the plane with her mum, she asked a member of staff if she could make an announcement to other passengers that she was allergic to walnuts, and asked it the crew could avoid serving them for the duration of the flight.

'I have a nut allergy and every time I get on the plane I have to go up to the cabin crew when I board and say,"Hi I'm allergic to nuts, please can you not serve any nuts on the plane",' she explained.

Faye, who works as a social media executive, was stunned when she was met with a firm 'no' from the air hostess.

'That's literally never happened,' said Faye who was subsequently told that she should have informed the airline in advance and that without notice, they wouldn't be able to do anything about her request.

However, she insisted in a second video that 99.9% of the time airline policy is to tell the cabin crew when you board the plane.

'When you book the booking team can't really communicate with the cabin crew on the day, especially if you're booking months in advance,' she explained. 'They don't know who is going to work that day, they don't know about last-minute changes so your best bet is to tell them when you board.'

Growing more and more distressed, she pleaded with attendant to make an announcement anyway to ensure her safety butwas repeatedly told by the flight attendant that she 'couldn't do anything'.

'It doesn't even make sense because I flew with that airline two days ago without informing them before and it all just happens on board,' Faye insisted.

Faye, pictured, said she'd not experienced any problems on her flight with the same airline just two days earlier

'When I've emailed them before in the past they just say to me, "Please inform the cabin crew on board".

'I sat panicking a bit because this woman clearly does not care about my safety. She's immediately shouting at me, defensive, it was honestly insane.

'She was so rude and all I want to do is not die on the plane.'

Faye then begged the attendant to speak to the captain, hoping that she might sympathise with the situation, but the hostess remained adamant that she could not 'stop serving certain things'

'So you're telling me that you feel comfortable and happy to serve people walnuts on board when I'm telling you I will die.

'I thought the job of cabin crew was to care about the passengers or at least keep them safe.

'The way she was speaking down to me, it was just terrible. I've never met anyone so rude in my life.

'If you have a nut allergy, you know how terrifying this is. Travelling anywhere is so scary because you have to think of so many things, so much can go wrong, especially going up in a plane.'

The TikToker, pictured, said the flight attendant was creating a 'hostile environment'

Eventually taking her seat, Faye decided to check the onboard menu and was relieved to see walnutes were not available on the flight in any case.

'She was just creating a hostile environment for no reason when she told me she still had to serve walnuts on the flight when there was no walnuts on the flight to begin with!'

'She had no empathy and no regard for my safety and genuinely did not care if I lived or died.'

Viewers of the video were quick to come to the defence of the TikToker with one user writing, 'I don’t understand why they even serve nuts on planes. They’re such a common allergy and so many other snacks exist?'

In a follow up video, Faye said: 'I'd day that 99.9 per cent of the time, the cabin crew on every single flight I've ever been on have been amazing, so understanding, kind, compassionate, they've made the announcements and done everything they can to make me feel safe.'

It comes after aBBCweather forecaster whose family were kicked off a flight after a row over her daughter's nut allergy said the experience was'humiliating and desperate'.

Georgie Palmer, 49, her husband Nick Sollom, 48, and daughters Rosie, 12, and Annie, 14, were ordered off the SunExpress flight from London Gatwick to Dalaman, Turkey after telling the crew Rosie had an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts.

Ms Palmer said staff refused to make a standard announcement requesting passengers not eat peanuts because they had 'updated' their allergies policy.

Instead she politely asked passengers around her not to consume any peanuts and pass the message on, which they did happily.

But she says this enraged the 'angry little' captain who demanded they leave before the flight would take off.

The mother of a boy with a severe peanut allergy has also slammed Manchester airport after they allegedly confiscated life-saving medication during security checks.

Emma Wakefield, from Derby, was anxious at the thought of her 14-year-old son Ben going on a school trip, since his allergies have in the past hospitalised him and left him seriously ill.

In preparation for his trip to Pisa last month, she packed two batches of medication, a paper prescription, a signed doctor's letter and a copy of Ben's care plan however these were all confiscated at security.

During the trip, Ben went on to suffer an allergic reaction to an apple which he was thankfully able to treat with medication in his hold luggage.
